May 6 -10 is national teacher’s appreciation week, and Shea Homes® is committed to giving Arizona teachers get the recognition they deserve, not just this week -- but all year long.
With the Shea Homes Heroes Rewards Program, a 1% credit toward the purchase of a new Shea Home in Arizona is given to teachers like Laurie and Ryan Reber, a husband and wife employed at Anderson Junior High School in Chandler, where Ryan teaches PE, Laurie teaches art, and together they coach the boys and girls soccer team, girls volleyball team, and girls softball team. They have been teaching in Arizona for over 19 years.
Empty-nesters with three grown children, the Rebers recently realized they were ready to downsize. Last year they found their Shea Homes dream home in Gilbert at Inspire at Recker Pointe. Laurie says she loves the location of her new community, and especially appreciated the Heroes Reward 1% incentive she learned about from her community representative, Berry Staub.
“As teachers, every little bit helps,” says Laurie. “Getting that discount up front like that – we were able to make some purchases. We did take some of our furnishings from previous home, and there were other rooms we needed to furnish with the style of this house. So, it helped a lot.”
After signing the papers in October, Laurie decided to start an Instagram account called Home Is Where The Bart Is, taking the name from their new address on Bart Street. Here she began to document the entire building and design process of their new home in Gilbert, from breaking ground to hanging new pendant lights. On her Instagram feed, the house grows before your eyes, as Laurie shares all the ups and downs of the process. But why did she share it all online?
“I wanted to show everybody – that they [Shea Homes] are involved from beginning to end,” says Laurie.
She says the Shea family appreciates educators and has her best interests at heart.
“They have been so good making sure the things were how they needed to be… start to finish.”
The home is now finished, and on their Instagram Laurie raves about the details of their home like the beautiful natural lighting throughout the house that she always wanted. She says whenever there were bumps in the road along the way, Shea was so good at making sure things were how they needed to be. They are still adding their finishing touches, but Laurie says that they could not be happier than where they are.
“It was a great experience from start to finish. The salespeople are so friendly about getting people together before you even close on the house!”
