We can’t think of anything more representative of autumn than fresh produce — especially bright orange pumpkins and juicy apples. Why wait to buy these treats at the supermarket when you can pick them yourself close to home? The location of The Canyons™ among the rolling hills of Castle Pines makes it a perfect home base to play farmer for a day. Read on to discover the best opportunities to pick your own pumpkins and apples close to your home sweet home.

It wouldn’t be October without pumpkins decorating every front porch and yard — and sometimes even making their way into our morning coffee! You’ll find plenty of opportunities to pick your own gourd near Castle Pines this fall. Closest to home, the City of Castle Pines will host a fall festival on October 22 from 10 am-2 pm. Bring your family, as this free event will feature hay rides, face painting, a petting zoo, and pumpkins aplenty. Stop by the Bundt Shoppe on your way out of the Village Square to enjoy a delicious seasonal pumpkin spice cake for the road.

Several farms near Castle Pines are opening their gates to the public this month for pumpkin picking, fall festivities, and more. Lone Creek Farms, located southeast of The Canyons™, will be open every Thursday-Sunday from mid-September through the end of October. Admission to the pumpkin patch is free with pumpkin purchase, but a ticket will earn you admittance to over 20 different attractions including everything from a corn maze and hay wagon ride to pig races and cornhole.

Visit the Colorado Pumpkin Patch at Colorado Kids Ranch and you’ll discover much more than just a huge pumpkin patch — you’ll also find activities like laser tag, pony rides, and hay slides. The Colorado Kids Ranch is located about a half hour drive south of The Canyons™ in Monument. They’ll be showcasing pumpkins, fall produce, and fun through October 30, and are open Wednesday through Sunday.

Though apple orchards are less plentiful in Colorado than seasonal pumpkin patches, you can still find several opportunities in the Front Range area to pick some juicy treats. YA YA Farm and Orchard is located just over an hour north on I-25 from The Canyons™ in Longmont. This picturesque farm is worth the drive for its apples, pears, flowers, and delicious cider and cider donuts made from fruit grown on-site.  Although their u-pick apple reservations are already sold out for the season, YA YA’s farmstand is open through November.

The farm sprawls over eight acres and features over 1,000 trees bearing fruit like cherries, plums, and (of course!) apples. The farm is also home to animals like horses, donkeys, chickens, and peacocks that visitors can meet and feed. YA YA has deep family history: It’s been in operation since 1896, when homesteader Percy Goss put down roots and began farming on the site. In addition to picking opportunities, YA YA Farm and Orchard also hosts events like Applefest, a two-day October celebration of barbeque, bluegrass music, and all things apple.
