Living in an area like Colorado with lots of blue sky makes for pleasantly sunny days spent outside. However, when summer rolls around all that sun can cause toasty temperatures! If you’re looking for ways to beat the heat, Shea Homes® has collected a few suggestions to help you stay cool while making the most of Colorado’s epic weather.

Take a Lake Day
Nothing says summer like swimming, and we can’t think of a better way to cool down on hot days! Take a day trip to a nearby body of water to enjoy refreshing swims and other recreational activities — many Colorado lakes and most reservoirs offer a full range of aquatic fun, including areas to fish and nature trails to hike. If you own or rent a boat you probably already have favorite spots to hit, but it’s worth adding Chatfield State Park or Cherry Creek State Park to your list, both of which are just short drives from your home.

Or hit the Pool
With resort-style pools in the works at both Solstice and The Canyons, residents will soon be able to cool off with a dip in the crystal blue swimming pool right in their master-planned neighborhood. The competition-sized pool at Stepping Stone provides the perfect gathering place for summer days in Colorado.

Go for a Mountain Getaway
Proximity to the majestic Rocky Mountains attracts many to the area. Whether you’re an avid hiker or an enthusiastic mountain biker — or you simply prefer breathing in peaceful pine scents without the strenuous physical activity — you’re sure to find the right mountain destination for your family. If you want to avoid a long drive or go on a short weekend outing, Conifer, Foxton, or Pine are solid choices located in Jefferson County. Go for hikes, take in the small-town charm, and feel the pleasantly cool air at higher elevations.

Visit a Local Ice Cream Shop
Who doesn’t love a cold and delicious treat on a hot day? You might want to grab a scoop or two on your way back from the pool or a family outing in Denver, or maybe you just want to head to your neighborhood parlor for a sweet afternoon family activity. No matter your method, a trip for ice cream will cool you down and perk up your spirits. A few local spots to try include Sweet Cow, Inside Scoop, and Glacier Ice Cream & Gelato.
