With a 14 year career as a Phoenix police officer under his belt, inconsistency is nothing new for Estevan R. For a cop, every day brings its own new set of challenges with it; a constant is hard to come by. For 14 years, that constant has been ending each day at a Shea Home. So when the time came to find a new space, the choice wasn’t hard for Estevan.
He’d lived in two Shea homes previously, but after some changes in his personal life, Estevan had been renting a place in Litchfield Park. As a single dad, he was ready to find a home he and his family could call their own.
“I was looking for a Shea home because I was so happy with the first two that I’d lived in. I fell in love with the single homes in Vallarta. I remember thinking that they were just perfect for me. It’s a gated community, and as a bonus my best friend lives in a Shea house just down the road.”
Vallarta at Verrado is Shea’s collection of upscale town homes in Buckeye. Just 25 miles from Phoenix, Verrado offers a welcoming Main Street with dining, shopping, and entertainment. Interlaced with miles of parks and trails, a golf club, excellent educational and recreational facilities, healthcare resources, as well as a variety of clubs and activities, Vallarta had the perfect small-town feel that made Estevan want to raise his family there.
“I’ve always been sold on Shea,” he says. “It’s the quality. You can’t compare it to anything else. Their standards, their builds, the people… I worked with a lot of the same people this time around that I’ve worked with in the past – Marci, our sales rep, Chuck, the superintendent. That continuity makes a difference.”
His design hit everything on his wish list: “The kitchen, the living room, and the master suite were my big selling points.” Estevan got everything he wanted and more with his open two-story floor plan.
Beneath the badge, Estevan is a chef by trade, holding a degree in culinary arts. The gourmet kitchen was one of the upgrades he was adamant on getting, somewhere he could concoct delicious cuisine for his two children. With plenty of counter space and a professional range stove, he got that in spades.
With most of his play money going towards the kitchen, he went with standard options in other areas of the home. “The standards were just beautiful. It still blows every other house I’ve owned out of the water.”
The kitchen, which he thought would be the star space of the home, was soon eclipsed by something more unexpected: “Oh, the shower, definitely,” he says with a laugh when asked what his favorite part of the home is. “It’s my kids’ favorite too. They call it the rain shower. If they’re in a bad mood, they fire up that shower with the rain head, and boom, instant turn around.”
“Everyone you talk to in this community is like ‘yeah, these showers are pretty sweet’.”
Estevan also loves enjoying his morning cup of coffee out on his balcony, which gives him scenic views of the White Tank Mountains, the Phoenix skyline, and the nearby golf course.
Approaching the one-year anniversary of living in their new home, Estevan and his family couldn’t be happier:
“I’m forever a Shea homeowner.”
