Shea Homes will be one of the new home builders in Cane Island, Katy’s first master-planned community, which will add 2,000 new homes to the area. New homes in Cane Island will be priced from the $200,000′s to more than $1 million.

Developer Rise Communities said the community was named after the 1872 settlement that later became Katy. The new development will be four miles west of the Grand Parkway and off Interstate 10 at the Cane Island Parkway, which is expected to open around the same time.

The community is slated to open in mid-2015. Cane Island offers convenient I-10 access, proximity to major employers, new healthcare and shopping as well as accessibility to other areas of town by the nearby Grand Parkway.

The Cane Island development team will complete the community’s first phase with 13 model homes. including traditional family and luxury patio homes,  in seven neighborhoods and include six home builders in addition to Shea Homes.

The first phase of development will also include an amenity center with an outdoor amphitheater, a family pool with an adjacent splash pad, an adult pool and a two-story fitness center including a health spa and yoga studio.

The development company also said the amenity center will house a trained Golden Retriever who will “meet residents and guests, pose for pictures and even present his business card in his official capacity as Cane Island Ambassador.” Future phases will include installing a trail system and a new waterway. The company also hopes to bring a new Cane Island Elementary School.
