Looking back at big home trends of 2019
Dec 18, 2019 • Denver Area, CO
As the new year grows closer, we thought it would be fun to look back at the big home trends of 2019. From pendant lights to wall murals, you may notice that a few look a bit familiar from our Shea Homes model homes. Here are our favorite trends that took over in 2019.
Pendant Lights:
Pendant lights can be a showcase feature in any space, especially tall hallways and large rooms — where the hanging lights make the room feel cozier and warmer. Pendant lights draw the eye upward, and they work best when they can be intriguing but also blend into the landscape of the room — exciting but not invasive. In our Emerson model, we use pendant lights that are almost invisible at first glance but add a touch of modern sophistication upon second look.
Tall Curtains:
Just like certain clothing can highlight your best features and draw the eye away from others, curtains frame much more than just your window — good drapes tie entire rooms together with color and texture. The trend of hanging curtains higher than windows is one of the fastest and simplest ways to make your ceilings look taller and your windows look larger. A good rule of thumb is to keep the curtains 4-6 inches above your window frame. We’ve added extra-tall curtains to the morning room of our Evergold model to showcase a picturesque wall of windows.
Statement Wall Murals:
Step aside, bold accent wall colors — because graphic wall murals were all over in 2019! Murals instantly make rooms feel larger and lend immediate personality to any space. Surprisingly fast to install, wall murals are perfect for a person who loves instant change and satisfaction. Whether you lean toward abstract, landscape, or dream-like scenes, you’re bound to find one that suits your style. We especially love adding murals to guest or teen bedrooms — given how quickly their tastes can change — like in our Hyde model.
