Quick Tips to Brighten Up Your Home for Spring
Mar 13, 2020 • Phoenix Area, AZ
Spring is almost here, but for every warm afternoon we still have some chilly, cloudy mornings. In these last few weeks before the desert heat arrives, we have some suggestions to create a bright and beautiful space to bring an indoor warmth to those brisk mornings and pull you out of the dreary days of winter.
Brightening up a room can be as easy as removing a dark rug from a space and replacing it with something lighter and airier, or swapping out that dark comforter in your bedroom for something white or pastel colored. Focus on bringing in lighter colors to help bounce light around the room. A few small changes to your décor can completely change the feeling of a room from wintery to the carefree feel of a spring day.
The feel of your space is about more than just your visual sense though; we can’t forget about the other senses. Change out your wood and spice smells leftover from the holidays for a sweet or citrusy smelling candle to help open the space and provide a fresher feeling to the room. Along with that, adding light colored flowers can add a subtle natural scent to any space, while providing a pop of color.
Obviously, there are some more involved methods of brightening a room; if you’re in the design stages of building your new Shea home, make sure you consider the immense impact your choice of flooring will have on the feel of your home.
Darker woods and materials certainly have their place – they evoke the classical and the refined. But if your aiming for a light and clean aesthetic, consider swapping dark wood floors for a lighter wood or – if you’re already in your home and looking for a change – even bleaching wood that you already have can change the space drastically, allowing light to reflect more freely throughout. With something prominent, like flooring, you can get your room looking ten times brighter with one change.
Speaking of light, don’t neglect your windows! Our designers craft floorplans that maximize the use of windows to allow as much natural light in as possible. After months of battening down the hatches against the cold, and before you’re desperately trying to keep your A/C trapped inside, enjoy this time of temperate climate and throw those windows open to the spring breeze! Simply opening your blinds or swapping to sheer curtains will allow natural light filter in, and if you’ve used some of the previous tips, your home will emanate with relaxing sunlight.
A few additions to your décor and changes in your surroundings can have an oversized impact on how you enjoy your R&R. So, open all the windows and let the sunshine in during this fabulous time for Arizona weather!
