Meet Wayne Battle, Shea Homes Arizona Safety Manager. Wayne is one of the many individuals who comprise the Shea Homes Arizona team. And like his colleagues, he plays a key role in the safe construction of new homes.

They say a house is only as strong as its foundation, and at Shea, Wayne represents that solid base. As a Marine Corps veteran, he understands the importance of sweating the small stuff. Attention to detail and structure are paramount in this field, and Wayne takes pride in sending his team home safe each and every day.

He and the rest of the Shea Homes family are also committed to making sure home owners stay safe when visiting active job sites. Of course it’s exciting to visit your new home while it’s being built and Shea communities are always open to visitors. However there are certain precautions that must be taken to make sure nobody gets hurt.

When visiting the job site, Wayne recommends taking the following precautions:

  • Wear closed toed shoes and watch where you walk. Proper footwear is essential. Wear sturdy closed toed shoes that will protect your feet from any construction debris. Also, make sure you watch where you are walking when visiting an active job site. Avoid tripping and puncture hazards like boards, cords, tools, nails or other construction materials.
  • Wear a safety vest and steer clear of machinery. Stop by the Shea Community Sales office and pick up a safety vest to wear while visiting the job site. This will make you highly visible to the construction team as they operate heavy machinery and equipment. Be aware that machine operators may not see or hear you, so leave plenty of room between you and the machinery.
  • Wear a hard hat and avoid falling objects. When a new home is going up, there are a lot of hard objects in motion. Trust us, you do not want any of these projectiles to hit you on the head. Ensure your safety by wearing a hard hat. Bring your own or pick one up in the Community Sales Office.

Now that you’re prepared, go and enjoy your new home visit!
