As Phoenix continues to grow rapidly, so do its suburbs, with people and families flocking to the suburbs to get a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It can be daunting to switch to suburban living after having the convenience of city life with entertainment, services, and food all within walking distance. Luckily, Phoenix’s suburbs have a ton to offer, each one has its own unique feel and appeal. We’re taking you through some of Phoenix’s many great suburbs, and what makes each area special.

Scottsdale – Probably the most well-known suburb of Phoenix, Scottsdale has long been a destination for tourists looking for great nightlife. While the city offers much more than places to grab a drink with friends, Old Town Scottsdale is recognized as a top spot by Spring Training fans and snowbirds alike. With an estimated 258,000 people, Scottsdale has a diverse population of families, young adults and retirees. Just a short drive away from the metro Phoenix, Scottsdale is a great spot for those looking for the perks of a city without the constant busyness.

Mesa – With a population of over 500,000, Mesa is Phoenix’s largest suburb. Located in the east and southeast valley, Mesa has everything you need without leaving town. The city has its own entertainment venues, plenty of shopping, and even its own airport. Mesa is surrounded by the Sonoran Desert, which means that there are plenty of trails to hike. There are also a few lakes and rivers nearby that are ideal for escaping the summer Arizona heat. Check out Shea’s Reserve Estates at Eastmark, located in Mesa.

Tempe – Home to Arizona State University’s main campus, Tempe is the place for night owls ready to hit the town on a weekend. Residents can easily take advantage of the year-round sporting events that come with being next to a university. One of the gems of Tempe is Tempe Town Lake, where you can break out your kayak or paddleboard to get a quick workout in while also working on your tan. When the springtime rolls around, be sure to check out the many music festivals at Tempe Beach Park.

Chandler - Located about 30 minutes southwest of Downtown Phoenix, Chandler has quickly become one of the hottest suburbs for families in the valley. With a thriving downtown and reasonable real estate, Chandler is perfect for those looking for a little extra room in their home. Many businesses are following the crowd and taking their offices to Chandler as well. Throw in the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and this city is set to please.

Goodyear With under 100,000 residents, Goodyear is the smallest suburb on the list, but that is what has drawn many people in. It maintains a small-town feel, while still having amenities of a bigger city. If you’re missing the energy of a city, Downtown Phoenix is only 30 minutes east. With the Estrella Mountain regional park in the backyard, there is plenty of nature to get out and explore, and there are not one but two lakes for you to enjoy. If you’re interested in living in Goodyear, be sure to visit one of Shea Homes’® newest communities, Acclaim at Alamar.
