Summer is a special time of year — the days are long, the pace is slow, and kids get a breather from academic routine. This season, take advantage of lazy days with fun activities right from the comfort of your spacious Shea Homes® abode. Indoors and out, Shea Homes® offer plenty of space for staying cool and entertained during the warm months. Summer has never seemed so sweet!

Fun with water
When you’re living in a Shea home, a dip in a refreshing pool is never far away. All our Colorado communities include access to a resort-quality pool, perfect for playing games with the kids, laying down poolside with a good book, or meeting friends and neighbors to celebrate the summer. At home, try fun games of dodgeball with water balloons or set up a garden sprinkler to cool off in your own backyard.

Stay cool with hydrating foods
Hydration is key to staying cool and healthy in summer’s heat, but it can be difficult to remember to drink eight glasses of water per day in the midst of so much fun. Instead, create a snack plate packed with foods that are not only delicious but also hydrating. Watermelon (more than 90% water!), cucumber, strawberries, and cantaloupe deliver juicy flavor as well as thirst-quenching refreshment. For an indulgent snack, consider freezing fruit juices or yogurt into popsicle molds or whipping up a batch of homemade no-churn ice cream sprinkled with your favorite toppings.

Home DIY projects
While summer is the ideal time to slow down and relax, it also offers the opportunity to catch up on home improvement or crafting projects. Grow herbs to season summer meals with a quaint garden in an old wagon, or sprout them from seeds with some soil and a compostable egg carton. Make your home an inviting place for feathered friends by painting and installing birdhouses with your kids!

Backyard activities
When the sun goes down, take advantage of cool evenings from your own patio or backyard. To switch up your mealtime routine, spread a picnic blanket out and dine al fresco. Your patio is the perfect setting for board games as you watch the glorious sunset, or you can transform your backyard into a movie theater with only a projector and a sheet — play childhood favorites or summer feel-good classics like The Sandlot, The Goonies, or Top Gun.
